Having grown up in foster homes and now a single mom of two little girls, Kristen had very little support. She relied on her own street smarts and common sense to make her way in life. Because of economic and social challenges, Kristen’s access to healthcare had been intermittent at best, but as a long time patient of the Sacramento Life Center, Kristen knew where to turn.

Halima, her husband and their 5 children had just made the long journey from their homeland, the small Kingdom of Jordan, to Sacramento. As Halima and her husband worked to help settle their family, not just into a new home and school for their children, but also into a new country and culture very foreign to their own experience, Halima thought she was suffering from jet lag.

Erica and Raymond dropped into the Mobile Clinic, both feeling a little nervous. They met with patient advocates who reassured them and offered them information and insight.

Just five months after I had given birth to my second son, I suspected I was pregnant again. I was fearful of what another pregnancy would mean – the high cost of daycare services, perhaps having to quit my job and the strain on my family’s finances.

Amy did not plan to get pregnant again… after all, she had just delivered a baby boy last year. She was barely making ends meet as it was. At the Life Center, she talked with her Patient Advocate about her situation and how she was planning to terminate the pregnancy.

Amber started her day at the Gathering Inn Homeless Shelter complaining she was not feeling well. She had no health insurance and seemingly no support of any kind. The shelter had provided her a place to sleep for the night and a social worker to assess her needs.  With the social worker’s help, Amber was seen by a doctor at the St. Vincent De Paul Medical Clinic...

“There are Wonderful People at Sac Valley Pregnancy Clinic (Sacramento Life Center)!

When I began to suspect I might be pregnant, my boyfriend and I couldn't afford much; sometimes not even food, so buying a pregnancy test was a little out of the question. We looked for a place to go for free pregnancy testing and stumbled upon Sac Valley Pregnancy Clinic.

Cassie came to the Sacramento Life Center for pregnancy testing and help getting health insurance. She had suffered a miscarriage in the last year and desperately wanted to be pregnant again. She was ecstatic when test was positive.

A frightened 16 year old girl came to the Life Center’s Mobile Medical Clinic for pregnancy testing. The on-duty patient advocate assured her she had come to a safe place where she could explore her options. Josie shared that her mom didn't know about her possible pregnancy, so they discussed how Josie might tell her.

Maricel, a 31 year old widow from the Philippines, came to the Sacramento Life Center looking for answers.  She entered the counseling room, after a positive home pregnancy test.  She was anxious to know if she really was pregnant.  

Christy came to the clinic for pregnancy testing and told her patient advocate that she was undecid​ed about continuing her pregnancy. Actually, she was leaning towards getting an abortion, because she believed she was not ready for a baby. She and her boyfriend were young, having just graduated from high school and planned to go to college.

Kasey was undecided about her pregnancy, she felt nervous and afraid; she was the mother of a two-year old little boy and not sure she could handle another baby. Kasey was also fearful that her relationship with her boyfriend would end. He was not thrilled at the idea of her being pregnant and told her she should have an abortion. 

It was a Friday afternoon in September when Linda was scheduled to come in for a pregnancy test at the Sacramento Life Center. 

A half broken down van filled with stuff pulled up to Mobile Clinic.  Janet and her boyfriend Jim were looking for a pregnancy test and ultrasound.  Janet told Lisa she was undecided about her pregnancy.  She was 42 years old and worried about potential problems due to her age and her habit of drinking, smoking, and drug use...
