Five months post-partum and pregnant again...

A smiling mother poses with her three young sons.

Just five months after I had given birth to my second son, I suspected I was pregnant again.

I was fearful of what another pregnancy would mean – the high cost of daycare services, perhaps having to quit my job and the strain on my family’s finances. I came to the Life Center, full of worry.

I didn’t know whether or not I was going to continue my pregnancy.

I met with Isabel, a patient advocate. First of all, Isabel helped calm me down. We discussed my situation and all my fears. We looked at my options and possible solutions to my problems. I started to feel better after talking to her.

Before the pregnancy test Isabel told me, “Look at the bright side of it. If we get a positive result and you keep the baby, things will be easier in the end. Your babies will grow up together. They will go to school together and look out for each other. You won't be doing anything different than what you're doing now and after he’s born you can focus on yourself. Today you take care of them, tomorrow they will take care of you.”

I never thought of it that way! I realized I was being selfish and didn't even consider giving my son a brother who would grow with him.

I didn’t have too much help as far as family or friends, so I feel pretty lucky to have stepped into the clinic that day.

The support I found at the Life Center was invaluable.

It helped me process and plan my third pregnancy and overcome the uncertainty. Today, I really feel like I became part of the Life Center family. I’m so grateful to the Life Center to be able to say I chose life and now I have my beautiful baby girl.
