A frightened 16-year old girl came to the Life Center’s Mobile Medical Clinic for pregnancy testing.
The on-duty patient advocate assured her she had come to a safe place where she could explore her options. Josie shared that her mom didn't know about her possible pregnancy, so they discussed how Josie might tell her. She had already told her boyfriend who in turn told her to get an abortion, which made her realize he probably didn't care about her as much as she had hoped.
After a positive pregnancy test, Josie cried and asked, “What now?”
Her patient advocate discussed adoption, parenting and abortion. Josie was amazed by the fetal development pictures. She was provided prenatal vitamins and a handmade baby blanket. Programs were suggested that would help her graduate from high school and pursue her goals for college. She was assured she could become a parent and achieve her goals in life.
Josie left feeling less fearful and more confident in herself.
The Sacramento Life Center would be there to help her.
A few days after her ultrasound, Josie summoned the courage to tell her mom. Her mom promptly kicked her out of the house. Josie moved in with her sister who was supportive of her pregnancy.
In spite of her mom’s disapproval and her now ex-boyfriend’s anger, Josie made the decision to continue her pregnancy and parent her baby. She is excited about the upcoming birth of her baby girl and grateful for the emotional support she has received.
She said with the Life Center’s help, she doesn't feel all alone anymore.
